One thing I’ve found interesting about featuring Kansas City podcasters is that several of them host multiple shows. When I briefly experimented with podcasting in 2006, I barely had enough time to produce six episodes of one show – so kudos to those of you with the dedication, perseverance, and geek-love to do more than one podcast!
Ethan Parker is one of those people – he hosts Gamer’s Haven, a gaming podcast, which I have featured previously, as well as Confessions of a Movie Snob, a movie review and discussion podcast. Read on to find out how their first Pop Culture Movie Showdown got the attention of Bruce Campbell!
What is the name of your podcast?
Confessions of a Movie Snob
What is your name and what is your role in the podcast?
Ethan Parker – Co-Host, Editor
How would you describe your podcast? Who is your audience?
My co-host and I talk film, from Seven Samurai to Volcano. We aim the show at movie-lovers.
When was the podcast launched?
2012
What made you want to launch the podcast?
My co-host and I used to have great conversations about movies while we worked together at a local video store in Lawrence, KS. We wanted to recapture those conversations.
How often do you publish shows?
Bi-Monthly
What do you discuss in your shows?
We review old and contemporary films, discuss the work of actors, actresses, and directors, and we sometimes jump into the realm of pop-culture to defend or advocate for one thing over another.
How long are your shows?
About an hour.
What do you love about podcasting/your show?
I love having conversations with my friends about movies, often getting to see them in a new light (both the movie and my friends).
Tell us about a particularly memorable moment in your show.
When we held our first Pop Culture Movie Showdown and got retweeted by Bruce Campbell – he made Ash win by a landslide.
What podcasts do you enjoy listening to?
What future plans lay ahead for your show?
Continuing a bi-monthly output of shows when time permits. We have kids now, and that makes it hard to meet up and record.
Where can someone find more information about your podcast?
EDITOR’S NOTE: There are currently just two podcasts up on their site, but word is they will be adding archives of previous shows soon.
Also of note – Ethan founded and organizes KantCon, an annual gaming convention for tabletop hobby gamers in the Kansas City area. And it’s coming up July 22-24! Check it out: https://www.kantcon.com/
