We all have our favorite fandoms and pastimes – and Doctor Who is among my top favs. We started with the 2009 reboot, and have watched all the new ones. We have only seen a handful of the old ones, but they’re definitely on our must-eventually-watch list. So when I heard there was a Kansas City Doctor Who group on Facebook, I immediately joined.
Today I introduce you to The Kansas City Time Lord Society. Read on to find out what makes this 1300+-member group unique! Allons-y!
What is the name of your group?
The Kansas City Time Lord Society
What is your role in the group?
How would you describe your Kansas City Doctor Who group?
All Kansas City Whovians, unite! If you live in Kansas City or the surrounding area and have some love for our bow-tie/decorative-vegetable/multicolored-scarf/sneakers-wearing alien, you belong here.
Come join with your like-minded neighbors and meet other fans. If you like, arrange fan get-togethers or viewings or whatnot. Exchange favorite episodes, Doctors, companions, etc.; chat online while new episodes air (or while rewatching older ones – NO SPOILERS!). Do whatever you fancy, as long as you’re having fun!
When was the group founded?
My friend Jessica started it – I’m not sure when – but as the group grew in 2012/13, she handed it over to me.
How long have you been a member, and what made you want to join the group?
Just looking for local Whovians to be friends with, I joined in 2012 or late 2011.
How big is the group?
We just hit 1300 members on July 25th 2016!
How often, and where do you meet?
There are monthly events, we also have yearly potlucks. We try our best to keep events steady to help members make friends and keep things fun and active.
Chris opens his home usually once a month for 8+hrs of Doctor Who/Star Trek/etc. fun. We try to do multiple locations if all possible.
What do you do at meetings/events?
Meet new friends, talk Doctor Who/comics/sci-fi etc, eat food and whatever other fun happens, happens 😀
What do you love about this Kansas City Doctor Who group? What makes it unique?
How loving, caring and helpful people can be, having everyone share one interest (Doctor Who) for sure. A lot of members are pretty easy going and easy for other members to meet and make friends, as well as some love interests 😉
What future plans lay ahead for the group?
Planning to try to make more meetups for weekdays and not just weekends since there are quite a few members that do work weekends. Try our best to accommodate meets for all members etc. Just more fun to be had 😀
