My husband and children are avid gamers, whether computer, MMORPG (massively multi-player online role playing game), RPG, or card varieties. One aspect I know they enjoy is the company of their comrades, and spending time with others who can relate to both their gaming victories and woes. Isn’t geeking out with others part of the joy of being a geek?

Enter KCGameOn. This group of Kansas City gaming aficionados gather regularly to share such experiences and stories, not to mention epic boss battles! Read on to learn more!

To promote and continue the growth of gaming culture in KC!

When was the group founded?

2005

How long have you been a member, and what made you want to join/found the group?

9 years, but organizing the event for the last 4 years.  I enjoy games and the social aspects of gaming. This has slowly faded over time (internet/multiplay) and it is absolutely one of the best parts of gaming.

How big is the group?

~500 and growing

How often do you meet?

every two months

Where do you meet?

North Kansas City, MO

What do you do at meetings/events?

We create an environment where ALL genres/types of gaming are welcome.  Our average attendance in 2015 was 170 people and they play PC, Console, Board Games and Card games (MTG, etc)

What do you love about the group?

The comradery, the rise and fall of a good battle and the discussion after it ends.  For some of us with families, it is a day of pure, uninterrupted gaming and fun.

Tell us about a particularly memorable moment in the group.

We have a loyalty event in December for folks that come to the other 5 events earlier in the year.  The look on their face when they win one of the last 5 (biggest/best) prizes.

What future plans lay ahead for the group?

We hope to reach out to KC gamers and start up a monthly gaming league for various games in coordination with Novastar and SoPro Gaming.

Where can someone find more information about your group?

Anything else you’d like to share?

All of our normal KCGameOn events cost $15 dollars – that money goes to the loyalty prize pool.  We also provide snacks/pop/candy and dinner is catered for the event.
