No matter whether you’re a newb, or a veteran at a skill or craft, it can help to get together with other enthusiastics to talk shop, get ideas, and share resources. Kansas City is home to its share of user groups, such as WordPress Kansas City, KCDesignCore, and Smarter SharePoint KC, and more. Python KC, a Kansas City Python user group, is another such resource. Read on to hear about their monthly, and quarterly meetings that draw up to 50 attendees!
What is the name of your group?
What is your name and what is your role in the group?
Chip Warden, co-organizer
How would you describe your Python user group?
PythonKC encourages anyone who uses, or wants to use, the Python programming language in any capacity to exchange knowledge and experience.
When was the group founded?
May 24, 2011
How long have you been a member, and what made you want to join the group?
I joined in November 2011 because I was interested in meeting other Python programmers.
How big is the Kansas City Python user group?
We have more than 1100 members on Meetup.com. However, we usually have between 20 and 50 attendees at meetings.
How often, and where do you meet?
The second Saturday of every month, and the fourth Thursday of the month, four times a year. We meet at various locations throughout the KC metro.
What do you do at meetings/events?
Our monthly Saturday meetings are very informal; we suggest bringing a laptop and being willing to meet new people.
Our four times per year Thursday meetings are presentation-based with several speakers discussing various aspects of the Python programming language.
What do you love about the group? What makes it unique?
I like learning about how other people use the Python programming language. I’m always amazed by the quality of the presentations our members give at our Thursday meetings.
What future plans lay ahead for the group?
We’d like to facilitate some sort of Python mentorship program, but we’re not sure exactly what that would look like.
Where can someone find more information about your Kansas City Python user group?
Anything else you’d like to share?
We try to be very welcoming to new Python programmers as well as experienced Pythonistas.
