The region’s premier comic book and pop culture festival offers a star-filled galaxy of special events, family-friendly fun and entertainment that is out of this world!

KANSAS CITY, MO – The galactic adventure that is Planet Comicon Kansas City takes over Bartle Hall in Downtown Kansas City this weekend, February 16-18. Bringing to life the colorful world of comics, fantasy, sci-fi, television, movies and cosplay, there’s fun for everyone at the annual extravaganza!

With three huge days of celebrity guests, the world’s best comic creators, panel presentations, interactive exhibits, collectibles and more, here are just a few of the items on Planet Comicon Kansas City’s “don’t miss” list, happening during the course of the weekend!

Thursday, February 15th

Harry Potter at the KC Symphony – 7:00 p.m.

While Harry Potter star Matthew Lewis will greet fans on Saturday and Sunday at Planet Comicon Kansas City, fans of the hit series can enjoy the Harry Potter™ Film Concert Series with Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets™, live from the Kauffman Center. The Kansas City Symphony will perform John Williams’ renowned score as the entire film is projected simultaneously on the big screen in Helzberg Hall. Elite Comics Drink and Draw – 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., Muehlebach Bar at Marriott Hotel

Join friends from Elite Comics and Planet Comicon Kansas City for the OFFICIAL kick-off party! The Drink and Draw, hosted by CW Cooke and William Binderup, features drinks, music, drawing, promo items and fun with The Elite Flight Crew, Planet Comicon Staff, and the amazing talent of PCKC’s Artist Alley! Friday, February 16th

Living in Space Cosmosphere Science Center & Space Museum

2:00 p.m., Planet Entertainment Zone Stage

The Planet Entertainment Zone returns for another fun-filled year engaging families and kids at PCKC. This year the Cosmosphere International SciEd Center & Space Museum will be at Planet Comicon with a collection of incredible artifacts, explorations and demonstrations daily during the convention. The Cosmosphere and many of the guests in The PEZ will feature interactive exhibits and fun for the whole family!

The Walking Dead with Khary Payton and Sonequa Martin-Green

3:00 p.m., Grand Ballroom 2501AB

King Ezekiel (Khary Payton) and Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green) make their first appearance at PCKC and talk about their experiences on pop culture’s hottest property. Enjoy this special Friday panel as these two stars share stories about their first day on set and going from fan to screen.

Planet Theater: Let’s Get Dangerous with Jim Cummings

3:00 p.m. – Great Hall 3501 ACEG

Another iconic Disney voice comes to Planet Comicon Kansas City as Jim Cummings (Winnie the Pooh, Darkwing Duck, Tigger) takes all your questions about voicing iconic characters in animation.

PCKC Pull List: The Art of Telling Stories in Comics

5:00 p.m. – Panel Room 2505A

The most renowned creators in comics talk about the magic of art and writing coming together to create a story. Hear what goes into being both writer and artist on superheroes and more. Jeremy Haun (The Realm), Geof Darrow (Shaolin Cowboy), Phil Hester (Green Arrow), Dan Jurgens (Action Comics), and Patrick Gleason (Superman) are on the panel.

Planet Celebrity Stage: When Pop Culture & Shock Rock Collide with Alice Cooper

6:00 p.m. – Grand Ballroom 2501AB

The Godfather of Shock Rock, Alice Cooper comes to Planet Comicon Kansas City. Singer, songwriter, actor; Cooper’s longevity in the entertainment industry is unparalleled. In a very special Q&A, fans will hear stories from the icon’s career as well as how his vaudeville and macabre influences shaped him as a performer. Don’t miss this special Planet event that is sure to be the talk of the weekend!

Saturday, February 17th

Planet Theater: The World of Remnant Q&A with the Cast of RWBY

11:00 a.m. – Grand Ballroom 2501AB

Planet Comicon Kansas City hosts the FULL name cast, plus more, of the hit Rooster Teeth anime series, RWBY! Join Lindsay Jones, Kara Eberle, Arryn Zech, Elizabeth Maxwell, Barbara Dunkelman and Michael Jones and hear from this amazing cast in what is the largest gathering to date of RWBY cast members at an event other than an official Rooster Teeth event!

Planet Celebrity Stage: Chopping Down Barriers with Danny Trejo

12:00 p.m. – Grand Ballroom 2501AB

Groundbreaking actor and entrepreneur, Danny Trejo comes to Planet Comicon Kansas City for the first time. Machete himself talks about his struggles in and out of Hollywood, his various film roles and memorable appearances on some of pop culture’s most beloved TV shows and much more! Don’t miss this chance to get to know Danny Trejo!

Trailer Park 2.0: Diving into the Latest Upcoming Film & TV Trailers

1:00 p.m. – Great Hall 3501 ACEG

Join PCKC’s panel of film and television critics as they screen some of the newest and most anticipated trailers from upcoming films and TV and then break down reactions and expectations.

Planet Celebrity Stage: John Cusack Says Anything!

2:00 p.m. – Grand Ballroom 2501AB

The unconventional hero of Hollywood comes to Planet Comicon. John Cusack stops by for a very special Q&A to talk about his iconic roles and memorable films.

PCKC Pull List: DC Comics Dark Nights METAL, Turning It Up To 11

3:00 p.m. – Great Hall 3501 ACEG

Their run on Batman was epic. Together, writer Scott Snyder and artist Greg Capullo have put their next-level talents to add even more depth to Batman mythos with the monster hit, Dark Nights: Metal. At Planet Comicon, Snyder, Capullo and inker Jonathan Glapion talk about what began with the Court of Owls and ends with the blockbuster event Dark Nights: Metal in a special spotlight moderated by Jason Inman. All badge holders are welcome to attend this special event.

Planet Celebrity Stage: Angel Grove Anniversary with Jason David Frank and Amy Jo Johnson

With the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers celebrating its 25th Anniversary, PCKC’s very special guests Amy Jo Johnson and Jason David Frank look back on the Mighty Morphin legacy and it’s ever-growing love today in this special pop culture celebration!

Planet Celebrity Stage: Bronn Age with Jerome Flynn

4:00 p.m. – Grand Ballroom 2501AB

The mercenary turned knight in HBO’s Game of Thrones visits PCKC for the first time. Jerome Flynn tells all the behind the scenes stories from pop culture’s most can’t-miss show. Hear the English actor and singer talk about life on set and what he hopes to see in the show’s future.

4:30 p.m. – Panel Room 2505A

Planet Comicon hosts a very special interview with one of the top writers in comics. Brian Azzarello co-created the critical and commercial success 100 Bullets for DC Comics Vertigo imprint. Along the way he’s scribed tales for iconic characters such as Superman and Wonder Woman. Most recently, Azzarello co-wrote the third chapter of The Dark Knight trilogy. In a special Q&A, Brian will talk his career and passion for comics and possibly what the future holds for him. Don’t miss out!

Planet Theater: Team Bestie Main Event with Trish and Lita

5:00 p.m. – Great Hall 3501 ACEG

The first female wrestlers to main event cable’s highest rated show talk about making history. Join WWE Hall of Famers Trish Stratus and Amy “Lita” Dumas as they tell behind the scenes stories from their storied careers in a special Q&A interview by BOOM! Studios WWE comic writer Dennis Hopeless.

Planet Comicon 2018 Cosplay Contest

7:00 p.m. – Grand Ballroom 2501AB

Fun?! Passion?! Prizes?! The cosplay contest at Planet Comicon Kansas City will showcase the skills of both local and visiting cosplayers of all skill levels. These talented folks are subjecting their cosplays to the scrutiny of the judges for a chance to win $1000.00 and the coveted ‘Planet’ trophy! This year’s judges are exceptionally talented in their own right. Laura Benfer of Another Castle Creations, Carley Bossemeyer and Victor VonCrowe from Strangecat Cosplay, and Charles Xavier Conley of Ebony Warrior Studios will each bring their experience and vision to help us sort out the winners!! Always entertaining, always dramatic, the Cosplay Contest at Planet Comicon is not to be missed! This year’s contest is presented by Cosentino’s Downtown Market and US Toy Magic and Costume Shop! This event is an after-hours event.

Elite Comics ‘Be the Hero’ Dance Party and Masquerade Parade

9:00 p.m. – Convention Center Lobby 1500 (below the Grand Ballroom)

Benefitting the “Hero Initiative”, the Elite Comics ‘ Be the Hero’ Dance Party takes last year’s after-party up another notch! Featuring dancing, cosplay, a masquerade parade, drinks and concessions, this fun-filled night will have you partying to the masterful mixes of “DJ Joe” and “DJ Ice Cole”! This event will benefit the Hero Initiative, the first-ever federally chartered not-for-profit corporation dedicated strictly to helping comic book creators in need. Admission is free with your show credentials!

Sunday, February 18th

PCKC Pull List: An All-Star Look at DC Comics Rebirth

DC has reinvigorated superhero comics since publishing Rebirth in 2016. Join some of DC’s top talent as they talk about their respective series and the events that unfolded from the historic DC REBIRTH. On this special DC mega panel are Marguerite Bennett, Scott Snyder, Greg Capullo, Dan Jurgens, Clay Mann, Tom King, Christopher Priest, Jonathan Glapion, and Pat Gleason and hosted by DC All Access co-host Jason Inman.

Planet Celebrity Stage: Son of Anarchy: Ryan Hurst

11:00 a.m. – Grand Ballroom 2501AB

In a special Planet Comicon Hour, Ryan Hurst comes to PCKC for a tell all Q&A. Find out what life’s like on the sets of Remember the Titans, Bates Motel, and the smash-hit Sons of Anarchy. Ryan will answer your most burning questions!

Walking & Rollin’ Costumes: The How, The Why, and the WOW!

11:00 a.m. – Planet Entertainment Zone Stage

Since 2015, Walkin’ & Rollin’ Costumes has provided incredible costumes for kids in walkers and wheelchairs, free of charge to the families. Enjoy a special presentation from Lon Davis and Reese Davis as they talk about the inspiring and incredible work they do for families in the community!

Planet Theatre: Over 9000 with Sean Schemmel and Chris Sabat

12:00 p.m. – Great Hall 3501 ACEG

The voices of the most famous anime in the world come to Planet Comicon. In a special hour session Dragon Ball Z fans can’t miss, Sean Schemmel (GOKU) and Chris Sabat (VEGETA) talk about being part of pop culture history and what their future holds.

Planet Celebrity Stage: Tuned in to Alan Tudyk

1:00 p.m. – Grand Ballroom 2501 AB

He’s a jack of all trades, having been a space pilot in Firefly, a chainsaw-wielding hillbilly in Tucker and Dale vs. Evil, and voicing several Disney characters from films we know and love including Wreck It Ralph, Frozen, and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. You won’t want to miss this opportunity to join Alan Tudyk in this exclusive, one-hour panel!

Planet Theater: Guarding the Galaxy with Pom Klementieff

2:00 p.m. – Great Hall 3501 ACEG

The breakout star of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 comes to Planet Comicon to talk about being the MCU’s resident empath. Hear all about her time on set and what the MCU may have in store for her.

Thinking as a Scientist with Wizard IV

3:00 p.m. – Planet Entertainment Zone Stage

Jake Jacobs is Wizard IV! A science communicator that has provided content for Myth Busters, Street Science, Nickelodeon, National Geographic TV, The Discovery Channel and many more. The Wizard is here on behalf of the Midnight Science Club and he will amaze you with things that wizards do!
