For today’s Geeks at the Library post, it’s all about the teens. Kansas City area libraries have really pumped up their teen programming, offering kids a safe and encouraging place to hang out with others with similar interests, and Kansas City Public Library is no exception. Anime, gaming, craft nights, writing workshops…it’s all here! Every Monday at the Plaza Library Teen Space! Learn how to play, take part in competitions, and build new creations on Minecraft Mondays. Ages 12-18.

Teen Craft Night

Teen craft night every Wednesday in the Plaza Library Teen Space! Join us for fun arts, crafts, and science experiments every week!

Library Campout-Friendship to the Max!

Based off of the comic book series Lumberjanes – The MO Parks Department will be hosting a campout at the Plaza Library! Teens will have the chance to earn badges just like in summer camp. Learn archery and earn the Robyn Hood badge, face your stage fright with the Space Jamboree badge, and see if your words can earn you the title Pungeon Master! There are many more badges and big prizes to those who can collect them all!

KCPT will be on hand to teach how to shoot video, record good audio, edit, effectively use social media, and how those videos they see become viral. Teens will work on creating memes and learn from Youtube stars and celebrity bloggers as well as documentarians to see how much digital media can impact the world.

Teens on the Fringe

Teens on the Fringe is the youth component of the Kansas City Fringe Festival and will be featuring performances by spoken word artists, musicians, dancers, and actors from all over Kansas City. We will also be featuring short films from local teens and providing acting and improv workshops. We welcome any teens who have the desire to take the stage to come and show us what you’ve got!
